Image 3 Middletown

Mary Swanson just moved to Middletown. About to have her first child, she is eager to enjoy the neighborly bonds a small town promises. But life in Middletown is complicated: neighbors are near strangers and moments of connection are fleeting. Middletown is a playful, poignant portrait of a town with two lives, one ordinary and visible, the other epic and mysterious. Pulitzer Prize-nominated playwright Will Eno meditates on life in Middletown with his signature blend of absurdity and beauty.

“Reminiscent of Thornton Wilder’s Our Town, if it had been penned by Dr. Seuss and edited by Samuel Beckett.”
Chicago Tribune

"Delicate, moving, piercing, tart, funny, gorgeous. Mr. Eno’s gift may be unmatched among writers of his generation. Glimmers from start to finish."
– New York Times

"Middletown is lusciously written, strangely poignant, dizzyingly modern spin on life."
– Newsday

"A play by Will Eno is a testament to the power of words and wordplay. The worlds he creates are shaped by the cadence, timing and positioning of words to tell stories about the everyday. In his absurdist, abstract drama Middletown, . . . Eno offers up an old-fashioned version of small town life that is familiar but with a tilt to the surreal."
– Chicago Sun Times
