Oregon Contemporary Theatre partners with dozens of theatres across the country to support Berkeley Repertory Theatreís radio production of Sinclair Lewisís
It Canít Happen Here, premiering on Tuesday, October 13 at 5pm PDT/8pm EDT via YouTube. A live Q&A session with the creative team will take place following the broadcast premiere.
Written in 1935 during the rise of fascism in Europe, Lewisís darkly satirical
It Canít Happen Here follows the ascent of a demagogue who becomes president of the United States by promising to return the country to greatness. Berkeley Rep unveiled a new stage adaptation of Lewisís prescient novel in 2016; the presidential election roiled our nation one week later.
Now, Berkeley Rep reprises that production with the same director and much of the original cast, this time as a radio play in four episodes, just in time for the 2020 presidential election. The intent for the project is to encourage dialogue and motivate citizens to exercise their civic power and vote.
It Canít Happen Here premieres on Berkeley Repís YouTube page, free of charge, on Tuesday, October 13 at 5pm PDT/8pm EDT. The production will be available to stream through November 8, 2020. For more information, visit Berkeley Repís website: https://www.berkeleyrep.org
